Adolescent Counseling

Supporting Preteens and Teens Through Life's Most Defining Years
Adolescence is a season of tremendous growth, change, and self-discovery. It's also a time when anxiety, depression, identity questions, social pressures, family conflict, and academic stress can feel overwhelming. At Benediction Counseling, we believe every teen deserves a safe place where they can be understood, accepted, and supported as they learn to navigate life's challenges.
Our therapists create authentic, trusting relationships with adolescents while partnering with parents and caregivers to foster lasting change. Whether your teen is struggling with their emotions, relationships, school, or simply feeling like themselves again, we are here to help.

Who We Help
Our adolescent therapists work with preteens and teens experiencing a wide range of concerns, including:
  • Anxiety and excessive worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Self-esteem and identity development
  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • Stress and burnout
  • Grief and loss
  • School avoidance or academic concerns
  • Peer conflict and bullying
  • Family conflict
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
  • LGBTQ+ identity exploration and support
  • Life transitions

Every adolescent has a unique story. We strive to understand the whole person—not just their symptoms—so therapy is tailored to their individual strengths, experiences, and goals.

How Therapy Can Help
Our therapists use evidence-based approaches while recognizing that healing happens through meaningful relationships. Depending on your teen's needs, therapy may incorporate:
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma-informed care
  • EMDR
  • IFS or Parts Work
  • Somatic and nervous system-based interventions
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy principles
  • Mindfulness practices
  • Family collaboration and parent support
  • Strengths-based and identity-affirming care

We help teens better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and build confidence as they move toward adulthood.

What to Expect
Beginning therapy doesn't have to feel overwhelming. Our process is designed to be simple and supportive.
  • Step 1: Reach Out: Contact our office, and our care coordination team will help match your teen with a therapist who fits their personality, goals, and clinical needs.
  • Step 2: Build a Relationship: Your teen will begin meeting with their therapist in a welcoming, judgment-free space where trust can develop at their own pace.
  • Step 3: Learn New Skills: together, your teen and therapist will identify patterns, process difficult experiences, and build practical tools for managing emotions, relationships, and everyday stress.
  • Step 4: Grow with Confidence: As therapy progresses, many teens experience greater resilience, stronger relationships, increased self-awareness, and renewed hope for the future.

Imagine What's Possible
Imagine your teen feeling more confident in who they are. Picture them managing anxiety with greater ease, communicating more openly, navigating friendships more successfully, and approaching life's challenges with resilience instead of fear.

Healing doesn't mean life becomes perfect. It means your teen develops the confidence and support they need to face whatever comes next.

At Benediction Counseling, we are honored to walk alongside adolescents and their families during this important season of life.

Frequently Asked Questions About Adolescent Therapy

How do I know if my teen needs therapy?
Every teenager experiences stress, but if your teen's emotions, behaviors, or relationships are interfering with daily life, therapy may help. Signs that your teen could benefit from counseling include persistent anxiety, sadness, withdrawal from family or friends, declining school performance, changes in sleep or appetite, self-harm, or difficulty coping with life's challenges. Therapy provides a safe, supportive space where teens can process their experiences and build healthy coping skills.

What happens during the first therapy appointment?
The first session focuses on getting to know your teen and understanding what brings them to therapy. Their therapist will ask questions about their concerns, strengths, relationships, and goals while working to create a comfortable, trusting environment. Parents or caregivers are often involved in part of the initial session so everyone understands the therapeutic process and has an opportunity to ask questions.

Will my teen's therapy sessions be confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of building trust with adolescents. Your teen's therapist will explain the limits of confidentiality during the first appointment, including situations involving safety concerns. We also believe parents and caregivers play an important role in the healing process, so therapists work collaboratively with families while respecting your teen's need for privacy.

Do you offer virtual therapy for teens?
Yes. In addition to in-person appointments in Arvada, we offer secure online therapy for adolescents throughout Colorado. Virtual therapy can be a convenient option for busy families or teens who feel more comfortable meeting from home.

Do you accept insurance for adolescent therapy?
Yes. Benediction Counseling accepts most commercial insurance plans and Medicaid. We also offer reduced-fee services through our Sliding Fee Discount Program because we believe quality mental health care should be accessible to everyone.
