Sam Wilde (they/them), Student Therapist
|
Sam (they/them) is a Dance/Movement Therapist-in-training, currently in their third and final year in Naropa University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, with a focus in Dance/Movement Therapy. As a queer and AuDHD (autistic + ADHD) practitioner, Sam brings a lived understanding of neurodivergence and somatic ways of healing to their work, offering clients a space that is both trauma-informed and celebratory of difference. Their sessions blend somatic awareness, improvisational movement, and playful exploration to help clients connect with their bodies, express emotion, and cultivate self-trust.
Sam’s work is rooted in the understanding that stress and trauma become stored in our bodies when we are not safe enough to process them and complete the natural stress cycle. Have you ever seen an animal shake its whole body? They are completing the stress cycle and releasing tension! We humans are animals too and physical movements like shaking and stomping can help us sequence trapped emotions through our bodies, allowing us to release them. Sam holds a deep belief that movement is not about performance but about belonging: to oneself, to community, and to the present moment. Sam weaves together evidence-based dance/movement therapy practices with an intuitive, heart-centered approach that welcomes all bodies, rhythms, and stories. In their free time, Sam loves to dance in the moonlight, stretch in their backyard, find ways to hang upside-down, create art, and spend time with friends and animals. |
